Six Tips for Properly Pampered Hands
Your hands are working for you around the clock. They cuddle your pillow, type on your keyboard, wash your dishes and bathe your children. They’re on-call every time you need something and they seldom complain. Don’t they deserve a little something special now and then?
Try these six simple tricks to soft, silky and happy hands:
- Soak your hands in warm water with some added moisturizing hand soap and lavender or peppermint oil. Toss in some marbles for a relaxing massage. Gently roll the marbles around between your palms and fingers. Let your tired hands soak for 15 minutes. (Weekly)
- Exfoliate your hands with a mild scrub. After soaking, pat your hands on a towel until they are only damp. Rub on the hand scrub carefully. Use a small circular motion all over, including between each finger and around the fingernails (where dry skin likes to hang out and get tough). (Weekly)
- Moisturize them with a hypoallergenic moisturizing cream or lotion. Gently rub the cream into the back of your hands and use more pressure, in a circular motion on your palms. Don’t forget to pay close attention to the areas around your nails. (Multiple times daily, more during the dry winter months)
- Get a paraffin wax treatment at a salon. Using hot paraffin wax treatments are the ultimate in hand-pampering indulgences. It feels awesome during the treatment and afterward, your hands are silky and soft, because of the wax’s deep moisturizing power. (Every six weeks)
- Use protective gloves when gardening, washing dishes or using chemical cleaning agents. These activities are hard on your hands and can damage or discolor your skin, not to mention that dainty manicure. (As needed)
- Apply petroleum jelly to your cuticles before bed. Wear thin cotton gloves to keep the moisture in and to protect your linens. In the morning, run your fingers under warm water and sweep over your nails with a nail brush to remove dead cuticles. (Daily)
Your hands faithfully help you get through your day. When was the last time you did something nice for them? If you show them a little extra love, they’ll keep up the good work and look fantastic while they’re at it.
