Lip Liner Makeup: What You Need to Know
I remember one of my first trips down the makeup aisle: I was in middle school and I was walking with a friend of mine named Casey. Casey was a true pro, an elite of middle school makeup. She was educating
me on the proper & essential ingredients to beautifying with store-bought products. She showed me the foundation and the blush, the powder and the concealer, the lip gloss and the lip color. She explained the difference between lip stains and lipsticks, and walked me through all of the essential, standard points on how to pick a foundation that perfectly blends with your skin.
Most of the tips she gave me, I stay pretty true to: except for lip liner. Casey was convinced lip liner was meant to outline your lips to make them thicker and plumper. She had very thin lips, and I should have taken this as a warning sign: even with her paper-thin lips, she looked like a clown when she lined ‘em up in the bathroom of our middle school dances.
I had some of my own bloopers, with the lip liner, until i did away with the product altogether in high school, because it was just too fine of a tool for me to be using, and I thought it went too easily wrong.
But now I’m revisiting the lip liner (and loving it). Lip liners have come a long way since my middle school years: now there are more liquid lip liners and advanced brush technologies that make it feel less like I’m taking a crayola colored pencil to my lips. I like to use the lip liner to color in my lips now, especially in slight pinks and nude tones, and then covering the final product with a shiny lip gloss, which makes an absolutely perfect nude lip and sheen that’s not too chalky, powdery, or thick.
