Save Money at the Salon: Beauty School Review
I hate spending money at the salon. I love getting my hair and nails done, but I can never justify the cost. I had been thinking about cutting costs by going to a beauty school, and one day, I decided to go for it. Over a year later, I haven’t set foot in a high end salon, and I keep going back to the three beauty schools in my area.
In all honesty, my experience’s haven’t been perfect. I had one bad haircut that took about three months to outgrow. I felt awful, and I had trouble covering up the cut. Regardless, for the most part, my experiences have been pretty awesome, and I plan to keep going back.
I’ve learned that when you visit a beauty school, communication is key. Bring at least two photos of your desired haircut. Learn the name of what you want done. Tell the student stylist exactly what you don’t want. If you know and can communicate what you want, chances are that you’ll get it. Just be patient and confident. Believe it or not, my best cut was at a beauty school (and I’ve been to my fair share of high end salons).
It’s worthwhile to go for the complex and edgy haircut: if the student can’t do it, he or she will call the instructor to help. The students are fun to talk to and really care about doing a good job. Once, a student was so excited about my haircut that she took a picture so that she could replicate it in the future.
