Best Foundation for Ethnic Skin

Have you ever went to a makeup counter at Macy’s or some other department store only to find that all of their foundation tones seem to look too pasty on you? You’re lucky if they tell you the truth. A lot of the classic, popular brands of makeup weren’t really manufactured with dark skin in mind. Dark skin requires a high dosage of SPF because it’s more prone to dark spots. Ethnic skin usually has yellow undertones and end up looking grayish if you use the wrong foundation.

Don’t worry though, I think I’ve finally found the perfect foundation. Bee Royal’s liquid powder mineral foundation is exceptional for a variety of different skin tones. The honey beige, fawn, and espresso work really well with dark shades of skin. They’ve taken all the benefits of mineral foundation and combined it with a liquid formula to create long-lasting results. Your face glows and it has SPF 15–an absolute necessity for ethnic skin. The minerals contain anti-oxidants so when you apply the makeup, you’re not only covering up imperfections but also healing them. It’s about $37 so it’s a little pricey–but you can’t put a price on the perfect foundation. It’s a foundation and powder fused into one, so you’re getting two benefits for the price of one. One really good thing I like about this product is that it dries really quickly so you won’t wipe your liquid foundation all over the place.

Retinol to the Rescue for Us Happy People

I saw my best friend just the other day and as she was hugging me, she looked right at the sides by my eyes and said I looked like I had gotten some sun. What?! No, she was ever so sweetly trying to let me know that she had noticed some fine laugh lines by my eyes. Oh god, say it isn’t so. Whenever I inspect my skin in the bathroom mirror and spot any sort of aging, I begin to panic and slather on some vitamin E oil or some other natural remedy. But wrinkles and fine lines? Those are no joke. I know they are only a natural part of life and aging, but I don’t like it one bit. Laugh lines? Why do I have to pay a price for laughing and having a happy life I wondered. Okay, I stop panicking and remember an old wrinkle cream I once bought at, of course, the local drugstore. You can spend all the money in the world on expensive anti-aging products and have no result, medium results or actual disappearance. I can’t vouch for those brands and products, because the only one I’ve ever tried, stuck to and gotten results from has been ROC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream that I bought at the drugstore.

ROC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream $18.99

This deep wrinkle night cream works miracles, I swear by it. Since it has pure retinol in it, it will make your skin a little sensitive for the time being and maybe even a little itchy, but that’s only when you first begin applying it and your skin starts adjusting to the formula. After using it routinely, every night after washing my face and before bed, I applied this cream to in between my eyebrows to a frown line I’ve made for myself. I dabbed it on the sides of my mouth near my nose where I noticed some lines form from smiling, and also put it around the bottom sides of my eyes, but never too close to the eyes. About after two weeks, I did indeed start noticing a difference. The frown line was gone, as were the laugh lines. It was amazing results. I recommended it to a girlfriend and she loved it as well. Of course it’s not a permanent fix, but a temporary one is better than nothing right?

Hair Maintenance: The Right Way To Sleep

Maintaining your hair is a task that’s easier said than done. Most of us spend too much time overheating our hair with flat irons and blow dryers, which results in breakage and split ends. Unfortunately, we can all agree that styling hair is something that can’t be avoided.

However, there are a couple things that you can add to your nightly regiment to help improve and maintain good hair condition.

Tip #1: Put your hair in a ponytail or bun before you go to sleep at night. This is really important. I know that a lot of you guys worry about dents and not having enough time in the morning to shower to get rid of the ponytail hair, but the ponytail dents are a small price to pay. Tying your hair back will not only prevent excessive oils from your hair from clogging the pores on your face but also distribute more natural oils among your hair to make it softer and more manageable in the morning. You can buy the most expensive conditioners on the market, but none will compare to the benefits of your own natural oil. Don’t be worried about your hair becoming too oily either because one night of even oil distribution will not have that effect. If you continuously did this and didn’t shower in between, then your hair might start looking too oily. Do you ever notice how the top of your hair is a lot more softer than the rough ends? That’s because there’s more oil at the top–by tying your hair up, you can help spread your natural oil to the ends.

Tip #2: Do not sleep on a cotton pillowcase.  You should go for satin or silk because they are woven in tightly and won’t soak up any of your precious natural oils. Cotton pillowcases are the enemy because they also sometimes cause hair breakage. Also, it’s good to change your pillowcase periodically because that will keep your sleeping area clean and fresh in case any oil did make its way in your fabric.

Tip #3: Always make sure that your ponytail is not too tight. There are actually some risks involved with tying your hair too tight, some of which can lead to hair loss and breakage.  Whenever you tie your hair in a ponytail, make sure it’s comfortably loose. You can cause yourself serious stress, headache, or strain if you overdo the ponytail.

Following these simple tips will help maintain your natural moisture–a pivotal aspect of hair maintenance.
